What to bring
Your identity documents must be originals and still valid. Copies are not accepted, including certified copies, unless DriveTest's list says otherwise.
Together, your documents must show your legal name and your full date of birth (day, month and year). DriveTest's list of acceptable documents shows which documents, or which combinations, meet this.
Documents on the Ontario list include a passport (Canadian or foreign), a Permanent Resident Card, a Record of Landing (IMM 1000), a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292) together with a valid passport from your country of origin, a study permit, a work permit, a visitor record (IMM 1442) and an Ontario Photo Card.
If the name on your documents is different from the name you want on your licence, or the names on two documents do not match, bring supporting documents such as a marriage certificate or a change of name certificate.
Documents that are not in English or French must be translated by an MTO-approved translator. Non-Canadian embassies, consulates and high commissions anywhere in the world are approved. Bring the original and the translation.
Since May 11, 2026, when you apply for a class G licence you must declare that Ontario is your primary place of residence and that your presence in Canada is legal.
Also bring money for the test fee, and your glasses or contact lenses if you need them to drive.
