Graduated licensing: G1 and G2 conditions and rules

MTO Driver’s Handbook: Getting Your Driver’s Licence, Graduated licensing requirements

Level One (Class G1) lasts 12 months, and you can complete it in eight months if you pass an approved driver-education course. While you hold a G1 licence:

  • you must not drive if you have been drinking alcohol; your blood-alcohol level must be zero
  • you must not drive alone: an accompanying driver must sit in the front passenger seat, and that is the only person who can be in the front seat with you
