Passing another vehicle
MTO Driver’s Handbook: Safe and Responsible Driving, Passing
Passing is changing lanes to move past a slower vehicle. Never overtake and pass unless you are sure you can do it without danger to yourself or others; do not pass a moving snow plow under any conditions, and if in doubt, do not pass.
To pass:
- signal left and check that the way is clear ahead and behind before you move into the passing lane
- watch for bicycles and small vehicles hidden from view in front of the vehicle you are passing, and for vehicles turning left, and vehicles or pedestrians entering from another road or driveway
