MTO Driver’s Handbook: Getting Your Driver’s Licence, New Ontario residents

If you are a new resident of Ontario and have a valid driver’s licence from another province or country, you can use that licence for 60 days in Ontario. If you want to continue to drive after 60 days, you must get an Ontario driver’s licence.

Ontario has licence-exchange agreements with every Canadian province and territory, including Canadian Forces Europe, and with Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Denmark, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Japan, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Republic of Korea, Kosovo, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine and the United States. Drivers receive a full Class G licence, provided they have an equivalent class licence.
