Languages you can take the G1 knowledge test in

DriveTest says the computerized G1 knowledge test is offered in 32 languages. Its list is: Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Badini, Bengali, Chinese (Cantonese), Cree, Croatian, English, Farsi, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Kurmanji, Ojibway, Oji-Cree, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, Thai, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu. DriveTest's Translators & Languages page says computerized knowledge tests are available in up to 32 languages, depending on licence class.

The list has one Chinese entry, written "Chinese (Cantonese)". It does not say whether the written Chinese is simplified or traditional, and it lists no other form of Chinese.

Paper tests: two DriveTest pages do not agree. The Knowledge Tests page says "Paper versions of class G1 knowledge tests are offered in the languages shown above." The Translators & Languages page says "Paper-based G1 knowledge tests are available in 20 languages at DriveTest Centres" and does not name them. This page lists only the 32 computer languages; ask the centre which languages it has on paper.

Audio: every computerized knowledge test kiosk has an audio function, with options to skip or repeat questions. DriveTest says the computerized tests come with full audio support, on a first-come-first-served basis, and does not list audio language by language. Ask the staff to switch it on.

If you want to bring an interpreter, or you cannot take the test by audio and need accommodation, make an appointment for a verbal test given by a DriveTest Centre employee. There is no extra fee for a verbal knowledge test. You pay your interpreter, and the interpreter must show proof of qualification.

Road tests are given in English or French only.

The official MTO driver's handbook has an English and a French edition. No other language is listed.
